Emily Duggan

Growing up in the Huon Valley, Emily’s keen interest in jewellery began at an early age with weekends spent selling her handmade beaded jewellery with her Grandma at local markets. In High school Emily did work experience with Jenni Singleton at Huon Valley Jewellers and it was here that her jewellery career aspirations were solidified. She began working at Huon Valley Jewellers as a retail assistant whilst completing her schooling and started a Jewellery Manufacturing apprenticeship in 2012. After the closure of Huon Valley Jewellers, Emily was determined to complete her apprenticeship and sought work at Haab Designer Jewellers and Bertoz Jewellers, until finally landing her dream job at Jai Hay Jewellers in Hobart. Emily completed her apprenticeship with Jai, and continued to work closely with him for the next 8+ years where she learnt a multitude of skills both on and off the bench.

In 2021, Emily took a leap in her jewellery career and started her owner/operator business, Emmire Jewellery. In April of that same year she was successful in becoming a member of FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective in the Salamanca Arts Centre, which offers her a wonderful space to showcase her work. Emily works in collaboration with 10 other talented local jewellers at FIND Collective to create a diverse and impressive collection of jewellery.

Emily completed her Diploma in Gemmology with distinction and is now a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Australian (FGAA). This qualification has enriched Emily’s passion for gemstones and has given her in-depth knowledge in the identification of gems.

Finesse and flow are two very important factors Emily considers when designing a piece of jewellery, with curves, intertwining design and delicate detail a favourite throughout her work.

A large part of her inspiration is drawn from antique jewellery, particularly from eras such Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Victorian, and Celtic motifs. Emily’s love and appreciation of these jewellery eras really transcends into the Emmire style.

One of Emily’s great passion is spectacular and intriguing gemstones. The wide world of gems is full of so many wonderful delights and Emily enjoys adding to her endless collection and featuring them in many of her pieces.

Jewellery is a meaningful and individual way of expressing yourself; creating a piece that holds sentiment and meaning to the wearer is such a special thing to Emily. She hand makes pieces to withstand the test of time, so that they can be passed down throughout generations.
